What is an Aneurysmal Bone Cyst?
Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a common benign bone lesion in children and adolescents. These cyst structures, which are abnormally expanded and contain blood-filled spaces within the bone, are usually seen in long bones and the spine. The patient may experience pain, swelling and neurological symptoms in the spine area.
Aneurysmal Bone Cyst Symptoms
ABC can cause pain, swelling and loss of function in the affected area. When found in the spine, neurological symptoms due to nerve compression may be seen. The diagnosis of such cysts is usually made with imaging methods such as X-ray, CT and MRI.
Aneurysmal Bone Cyst Treatment Methods
In the treatment of ACC; The cyst can be scraped out (curettage), filled with bone graft or, for large and aggressive cysts, completely removed with surgical methods (resection). The choice of treatment method is determined by the size, location and age of the cyst.
Treatment Methods:
- Curettage (scraping)
- Filling with bone graft
- Resection (complete removal)
